The question of the enlargement of the European Union with Western Balkan countries: is a more flexible attitude with a view to rapid accession desirable because it stimulates democracy, stability and prosperity in this recently strife-torn region, or should the criteria for accession be strictly adhered to?

The question of EU trade policy versus development cooperation: measures taken in these two fields can lead to opposite effects. How can this be avoided?

The question of growing unemployment among young people in the European Union: increasingly unemployment, specifically amongst the younger generation, is becoming a serious problem within the European Union. What measures can the EU take to stimulate the participation of young people in the labour market – or should fighting unemployment be considered a national responsibility?

The question of fossil fuel alternatives: nuclear energy has its appeal as a consequence of the disaster in Japan. Does this mean that nuclear energy is no longer an option for the EU? Can and should the EU stimulate and promote the development and use of alternative energy sources?

The question of human trafficking: every year great numbers of people are smuggled into the European Union by traffickers. A large percentage of them end up in prostitution, others fall victim to forced labour, organ trade and illegal adoption. What can be done to fight this modern-day slave trade?
